Anyone up for a ‘Job Swap’?

Just imagine trying to convince any sane company CEO that organising ‘Job Swaps’ for the purpose of improving performance at all levels is a sensible idea.  Sounds ridiculous however, it only works!

A little explanation might help here.

The problem or should I say opportunity is that we all become somewhat focused on our knowledge and experience utilising these two imposters as our rite of passage and font of all things good.

Just imagine if we were told to take control of an area that was technically and experientially completely outside our sphere of knowledge and told that we had to improve the performance of our new team by circa + 20%.

It is at this juncture of the new challenge that this scenario forces us to consider accessing a completely new set of leadership behaviours and skills from within. Both conscious and unconscious thinking create a new learning environment where everyone including you as the leader accepts that you are not there for the purposes of telling, selling or cajoling rather, creating an environment where impossible becomes possible through the team not its leader.

This new scenario of course can be somewhat scary as it relies on advanced communication skills, trust and manifestation of individual and collective belief at all levels within the team.

All sorts of changes take place with some team members who have been in hiding for years suddenly rising to the new challenge and dare I report the fact that satisfaction and enjoyment appear to be bedfellows notwithstanding a marked improvement in output and results in general.

I wonder, could this catch on? Would those in power allow the reins of leadership and performance to be re-aligned to those who can, given half a chance make a real difference?

So, getting out of your own way requires you to be M.A.D (make a difference), let go of what you think works and watch how the new you can create impossible/possible.

It’s fun, it’s scary, but it only works!
